VUMBACA

Cantina Vigneti Vumbaca is located in Cirò and spans about 32 acres, with 15 acres dedicated to organic cultivation. Christian Vumbaca, the proprietor, returned to his native land after spending around fifteen years in Rome to continue the venture initiated by his mother Silvana and uncle Enzo in Cirò. The journey began relatively recently, with the first 5 acres purchased in 1984 at their primary estate, Sant’Anastasia. Here, on clayey-limestone soils and south-facing slopes, Christian grows Gaglioppo using the traditional bush vine method known locally as albarello (sapling) – a technique reflected in the company’s logo. This ancestral vine training method, used in arid climates to protect vines from harsh conditions, is a hallmark of Calabrian viticulture. The vines, planted in 1976, are the pride of Vumbaca.
