Italian Wine Regions
TRENTINO-ALTO ADIGE
Viticulture in Trentino- Alto Adige has ancient roots that preceded
the Roman Empire. This region's vineyards extend over the
plains and hills surrounding the Isarco Valley and the Adige
River whose valley is Italy's corridor to Germany. This region
is walled in by the Rhaetian Alps and the Dolomites whose
slopes were sculpted mainly by glaciers and mountain streams.
Most vineyards lie along the Adige and Sarca rivers with soils
that contain limestone in glacial or alluvial deposits of
gravel, sand or clay.
